When we look at the history and the origin of the Kandanadu Diocese, the Cathedral Church of Muvattupuzha stands out as a land mark in the Malankara Orthodox curch. Two of our Head of the Church the Late distinguished Catholicos were very much connected and hails from this place. The first Catholicos of the East, His Holiness The Late Baselios Paulose I (Murimattathil Bhava) when his Holiness was a Bishop acquired the place for the above Cathedral. His Holiness the late Baselios Augen I when His Grace was a bishop of the Kandanadu Diocese used the Muvattupuzha Aramana as the head quarters and thus completed the work of the church and consecrated it in 1937. The present day church, the Bishop’s house and Cathedral hall including the diocesan center was renovated or built since (1990) the inception of our beloved Bishop His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius. The Kandanadu Diocese split as East and West for administrative purposes since (2002) the churches and establishments increased. For the East as the head of the Diocesan Metropolitan His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius continues.

       Kandanadu East is one among the 25th diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church covering the North east region of Malankara (part of Kottayam, Iddiki, and Ernakulam districts). Our church’s are in the above region in the radius of approximately 30 km: with its headquarters and Bishop’s house in Muvattupuzha. The followers of the church are widely spread and settled in the region. Most of them are involved in the farming sector and very few are professionals and business men.      Under this diocese and with the help of the Almighty God there are several charitable institutions functioning in a unique way with the zeal and determination of our spiritual father His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius the Metropolitan. Each of our humanitarian projects is formed by a trust of its own by the dedicated church members of our church presided by His Grace. Hence lot of active involvement and co operation could be seen in a practical way. The trust member’s themselves feels a sense of belonging in such a project besides helping in promoting the individual’s characteristics of entrepreneurial and stewardship qualities which in turn will help in future continued functioning of the entities in a responsible and expected manner. Also our Grace is a paid trust member in all the projects which itself constitutes a uniqueness.
